The White Verdict

You are the operations deputy on an Everest expedition whose equipment auditor dies above the Icefall. At first the death looks like altitude and bad hardware. Then oxygen counts fail, weather data disappears, and the only safe route down is cut away. There is a saboteur in the team. By the time that truth becomes unavoidable, the group is committed high on the mountain with a storm inbound. Every choice spends oxygen, time, trust, evidence, or a life. You can expose the killer and lose the team, save the team and lose the case, reach the summit over bodies, retreat into uncertainty, die proving the truth, or leave nobody alive to tell it.

Four-ten, Base Camp. The first sound you hear is too thin to be the wind: a regulator holding pitch inside Elias Ward's test tent. The oxygen ledger clipped outside is initialled line by line, and the count balances. Elias lies beside the rig with one glove off, the gauge shivering just above zero, while the forecast is already deciding how long anyone can afford to look.

Everest, Spring Window

Mount Everest during a narrow spring summit window. The expedition begins in ordinary commercial-climbing friction: weather forecasts disagree, oxygen cylinders are short, and clients distrust one another. Then expedition auditor Elias Ward dies in what looks like a regulator accident. The mountain is physically real and indifferent. Altitude impairs judgment, rescue consumes the same oxygen needed to survive, and a forecast storm closes choices faster than the group can debate them. By the time sabotage is undeniable, the Icefall has shifted below and the team is committed above Camp II.

  • You

    Expedition operations deputy

You coordinate the expedition’s oxygen, radios, turnaround times, and emergency authority. High-altitude experience helps, but your defining responsibility is deciding which risks the team can still bear.

  • Callum Vey

    Callum Vey

    Oxygen systems representative

Callum Vey represents the expedition’s oxygen supplier and brings years of equipment-quality experience to the climb. His technical confidence makes him central whenever a regulator or cylinder is questioned.

  • Mina Park

    Mina Park

    Expedition leader

Expedition leader Mina Park holds final authority on the mountain. She must weigh summit plans against weather, oxygen, turnaround times, and the safety of every climber still moving above base camp.

  • Tashi Nuru

    Tashi Nuru

    Sirdar and lead route reader

Sirdar Tashi Nuru is the expedition’s strongest route reader. His close knowledge of the icefall and its changing hazards guides every movement above base camp.

  • Dr. Anika Rao

    Dr. Anika Rao

    Expedition physician

Expedition physician Anika Rao works with limited equipment where altitude illness, injury, and mechanical failure can resemble one another. Her clinical judgment is one of the team’s few reliable safeguards.

  • Noah Bell

    Documentary climber and radio technician

Documentary climber Noah Bell records the expedition while maintaining its cameras, storage, and radios. His technical resourcefulness keeps both the team’s communications and its account of the climb intact.
