As the reader examines the crime scene, ledgers, and the tangled lives of the forty residents, three suspects emerge: the stationmaster's young widow, Inez, who harbors a fugitive past; the bitter freight clerk, Tomás, who roams the station at night; and Castillo himself, whose maintenance reports don't add up. The mystery unfolds over eight chapters, moving from the locked office to the hidden ledgers and finally to the truth behind the ghost train. Every clue is a scrap of paper, a misplaced object, a whispered conversation. The solution lies in the thousand days of timetables Emilio kept—a record of a man who knew too much.

The stationmaster is the sole authority, maintaining the empty station and a timetable for trains that no longer run—a ritual of hope and duty. The town itself is a collection of forty souls: railway families, a few miners, a telegraph operator, a priest. Life is pared down to essentials: water from the communal pump, news by telegraph, heat from llama-dung stoves. The thin air makes every exertion a labor, and the isolation breeds secrets as dense as the fog that rolls down from the peaks. The railway is both lifeline and curse: it brings supplies and news, but also audits, inspections, and the outside world's demands. The company offices in the capital are a distant, faceless bureaucracy, and the line's chief engineer, based in Quillcay, wields enormous power over maintenance schedules and budgets. Paperwork is the currency of truth: ledgers, timetables, telegrams, and audit reports. In this world, a misplaced entry can be a death sentence, and a forged signature can summon a ghost.

This rendered `play_count|default(0)` and discovery-detail.js repainted `play_count || 0`, so a story whose counter is stored as `session_count` or `active_players` -- both of which the API allowlists for public disclosure -- told every visitor that nobody had ever played it. The order is play_count, then session_count, then active_players, and it is spelled the same way in discovery-detail.js's `playerCount`; the two must agree or the number changes under the reader a beat after load. `|default(none) is not none`, not `or`: a real 0 is an honest answer and must not fall through to a nonzero sibling. #} 1 Jucători
