Bristol, 1887. Board of Trade inspector Sarah Croft arrives to investigate an impossible duplicate countersign in the harbour ledgers. She already knows how it was made: three nights earlier, she traced Clerk Elias Thorne's signature herself to force an audit of Captain Silas Vane's protected cargo route—the route named in her father's final private dossier. The forgery opens the books, but it also endangers an innocent clerk and gives Harbour Master William Graves grounds to bury every discovery as tainted. Across eight episodes, Sarah investigates the crime she committed, assembles a lawful case from evidence independent of it, and decides whether exposing the ring requires exposing herself.

In 1887 Bristol, an inspector investigates the harbour forgery she committed to expose the ring that killed her father.

Bristol Harbour, 1887: cargo legitimacy is made from ink, witness, weight, and institutional reputation. Sarah Croft has already violated that system to force it to examine itself. The evidence must remain period-grounded—pressure marks, iron-gall and carbon inks, watermarks, binding order, custody, tide tables, and sworn testimony; no ultraviolet lamps or modern forensic shortcuts exist.

Audit #4439 fixes BUG-3205: the fall-through that comment describes was never actually written, on either side. This rendered `play_count|default(0)` and discovery-detail.js repainted `play_count || 0`, so a story whose counter is stored as `session_count` or `active_players` -- both of which the API allowlists for public disclosure -- told every visitor that nobody had ever played it. The order is play_count, then session_count, then active_players, and it is spelled the same way in discovery-detail.js's `playerCount`; the two must agree or the number changes under the reader a beat after load. `|default(none) is not none`, not `or`: a real 0 is an honest answer and must not fall through to a nonzero sibling. #} 3 Gracze
