You command a medical convoy from collapsing Baltimore to Atlanta's last functioning emergency hub as linked Ebola clusters tear through the eastern corridor. The disease obeys real rules. The route's identity system does not. A murdered epidemiologist leaves red tag 0792, a stopped watch fixed at 02:17, and fragments of an exposure map. The tag belongs to A. Reyes, yet it repeatedly appears on different Northstar vehicles and finally on Reed's own false transfer. It is a ghost slot: a reusable corridor identity that hides symptomatic private clients while the people who touched them are deleted from monitoring. Northstar executive Vera Kincaid built the Continuity Index that prices those identities, diverted public supplies to support it, and cancelled Reed's medical-distress response after he found the pattern. Across eight escalating episodes, every decision changes who reaches the last clean mile and which stations can still be staffed there. Evidence competes with medicine. Mercy consumes time. Honest monitoring can look like weakness to a frightened crowd. The conclusion resolves three independent questions—who lives, whether the truth becomes durable, and whether the fever line holds—while the same number that opened the mystery turns green at Atlanta's final gate.

Thirty-seven, says the rain-softened count board under the Baltimore canopy. You count the people instead. In Module Twelve, the epidemiologist the manifest lists as in transit lies still beside a disconnected dispatch lead, his watch stopped at 02:17 and a red tag, 0792, tucked in his sleeve. A minute later the same number turns green on a vehicle already in your convoy, and someone inside it knocks on the glass.

Il mondo

Eastern Emergency Corridor

A natural Ebola outbreak has ignited linked clusters along the eastern United States. It spreads through direct contact with infectious body fluids and contaminated materials—not through the air—and ordinary outbreak tools still work when people are allowed to use them. Hospitals are overloaded, contact lists are incomplete, and fear is turning checkpoints into borders. You are a former paramedic recalled to command a mixed medical convoy from Baltimore to Atlanta. Every mile consumes fuel, PPE, treatment, time, and trust. Every person outside the manifest is a choice someone else already made. When epidemiologist Dr. Malcolm Reed is found dead inside a powered-down transfer module, the red triage tag hidden in his sleeve identifies A. Reyes—but the same number, 0792, is already moving south on another vehicle. Reed discovered that Northstar Emergency Logistics was not merely falsifying manifests. It had created reusable corridor identities—ghost slots—that let visibly symptomatic private clients cross public checkpoints while their real contacts disappeared from monitoring. Reed split the proof into a tag, a stopped watch, a paper map, encrypted checksums, and a delayed statement so no single seizure could erase the case. Executive Vera Kincaid did not cause the virus, but she turned the response map into a private Continuity Index and knowingly made Reed's detention fatal. To reach Atlanta, you must keep vulnerable patients isolated, rebuild the honest exposure map, preserve a case designed to survive missing pieces, and decide whether a safe route is still safe when its identities can be bought.
